Every update we track across Florida's insurance companies — rates, rules, storm pauses, and new companies — newest first.
Citizens Status
Citizens stopped taking new policies statewide at 11:05 a.m. ET on Oct. 7, 2026, ahead of Hurricane Isaías.
Frontline Status
Frontline paused new business in 16 Florida Panhandle counties on Oct. 7, 2026 for Hurricane Isaías. The first notice named 23 counties; 7 were removed.
Citizens Policy forms
The Dec. 1, 2026 forms treat frequent short-stay rentals as a business. They also let Citizens deny a wind claim if a required flood policy has lapsed.
Frontline Eligibility
The CHRP self inspection asks fewer questions and wants fewer photos. Requests go straight to the homeowner. And Frontline FIRE HO-3 is now open in every Florida ZIP.
Citizens Eligibility
For new business effective Aug. 1, 2026 or later, Citizens pulls roof age from a third-party database. Agents fix bad data with a permit, invoice or inspection.
Frontline Pricing rules
New opening protection rules are out. They set the Panhandle county list. The credit can be added to a policy and backdated up to 14 days.
SafePoint Status
SafePoint paused new business on July 20, 2026 for Tropical Storm Bertha and lifted the pause on July 22 at 5 p.m. ET — one of the fastest turnarounds.
Heritage Eligibility
Shingle roofs now qualify to 20 years, and metal or tile to 40, statewide. There is no consent to rate surcharge, and most new policies skip an inspection.
Citizens Rates
Rates fall for policies that start July 1, 2026 or later: 8.8% lower on average for home policies, 5.1% for wind-only. The drop varies by place.
Citizens Eligibility
Since June 26, 2026, a private offer only blocks you if it is truly comparable. It must pay the roof at replacement cost and include at least $10,000 of water coverage.
SafePoint Rates
A Florida business property rate change took effect June 1, 2026. Sister brand Manatee Insurance handles that side of SafePoint's book.
CORE New company
HCI Group launched CORE on April 6, 2026 to take homes out of Citizens. HO-3 only, dwelling coverage to $1.2 million, and no distance-to-coast rule.
